6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have been hard at work creating their own student websites! This week we have created our sites, personalized to make them our own, and added our own blog pages. If you missed class or need a reminder on how to create a site, change your pictures, or add a blog (along with lots of other cool stuff) visit my video tutorials website HERE. Have fun!!! Make sure your student brings back their signed paperwork for class! It's for a grade! I have plenty of extras if needed. You can also download it HERE.
Welcome back for another exciting school year!!! I am very excited to meet all of the new upcoming 6th graders as well as seeing all of the familiar faces of my former 7th and 8th grade students! I have some new additions to the curriculum this year that I am very excited about! Over the summer I took a basic computer programming course for educators. The course focuses on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed software called Scratch. To put it simply, Scratch is AWESOME and I cannot wait to share it with my students this year. My goal is for my 7th and 8th grade students to be able to create their own computer games by the end of their time in my class! Computer programming is a tool that will help students in all of their classes, not just technology based. The problem solving and critical thinking that it takes to create a computer program is paramount to student development! To top everything off, Scratch is FUN! In addition to Scratch, students will be presented with some of my overall favorite subjects from last year, such as website development and video editing! I look forward to growing and learning with my students this year! I will be available at 8th graders recorded their final broadcasts this week! They will be available on the broadcasts section throughout the weeks to come!
7th grade classes are beginning their podcasting unit this week! Students record their podcasts using Audacity- free audio editing program!
6th graders are starting to create their websites! Students are really excited to create their very own site on a topic of their choosing!
7th Graders are starting their podcasting unit! Podcasting is a lot of fun! They are recording their very own radio shows on Audacity! 8th Graders are working on their "Goodbye Middle School" reporter package in preparation for our final broadcasts of the year. We are also preparing for our "Final Exam" where each student must complete a Student Interview Project in Windows Movie Maker. The end of the quarter is rapidly approaching. I will not accept ANY late work after Friday, March 29th! This is especially important for 8th graders finishing up their documentaries! 8th graders have had the ENTIRE nine weeks to complete these projects and they will not be accepted late!!!
My 6th grade class came in yesterday with an odd request: CAN WE PLEASE DO A HARLEM SHAKE?!?!? With the parameters of "We have to finish in 5 minutes or less and still get our work done for today," we went for it. Happy Monday!
8th grade students are working on their documentaries. They are due NO LATER than March 28th. Students have had the ENTIRE third nine weeks to work on this project that accounts for two thirds of their third nine weeks grade. I will not accept late documentaries since students have had more than enough time to complete this project. Remind your students that I am available during their SOAR every day. Also remind them to be sure to use their time wisely!
